Patch Magento for APSB26-153

Adobe published APSB26-153 on 13 October 2026 with critical fixes for Adobe Commerce and Magento Open Source. The response is not one download: stores need the correct October isolated patch, the separate StyleSmuggler hotfix, credential rotation and proof that every required patch is active.

What APSB26-153 fixes

Adobe rates APSB26-153 as priority 2. The bulletin covers critical, high and medium vulnerabilities that can lead to arbitrary code execution, privilege escalation, arbitrary file-system writes and security control bypass. The most severe issue, CVE-2026-103849, is an unauthenticated remote code execution vulnerability with a CVSS score of 10.0.

The affected Adobe Commerce lines include 2.4.9-2026-sep through 2.4.4-2026-sep and earlier. Magento Open Source 2.4.9-2026-sep through 2.4.6-2026-sep and earlier are also affected. Adobe Commerce B2B has its own affected component versions, so merchants need to identify the installed edition and component set rather than select a patch from the base Magento number alone.

Adobe stated on 13 October that it was not aware of exploitation in the wild for the issues fixed by APSB26-153. That is not a reason to wait. The combination of unauthenticated code execution and public vendor patches creates a short operational window in which stores should establish their exposure, test the correct files and complete the release.

02

The October patch depends on the current state

Adobe distributes the October fixes as isolated patch files rather than Composer packages. A store must first be on the latest security-only patch baseline for its release line. It must also have every earlier monthly isolated patch applied in release order, because the monthly files build on one another and are not cumulative.

The ZIP can contain separate files for Community Edition, Enterprise Edition, B2B, Page Builder and other components. Apply only the files that match the installed component versions, and preserve their required order. Adobe warns that a current Cloud Patches for Commerce package may already contain the fix. Applying the isolated patch on top of the same fix can cause installation failures.

This makes the effective patch state more important than the version label shown in the administration panel. Before changing production, record the Magento release line, security-only baseline, installed components, earlier isolated patches and cloud-patches version. The result determines the correct remediation path.

  • Confirm the exact Adobe Commerce or Magento Open Source release and latest security-only baseline.
  • Inventory all monthly isolated patches already applied since July 2026.
  • Match CE, EE, B2B and other component files to the installed versions.
  • Check Cloud Patches for Commerce before applying an overlapping file manually.

03

StyleSmuggler remains a separate obligation

Adobe explicitly requires the hotfix for CVE-2026-75650, known as StyleSmuggler, in addition to the October isolated patch. APSB26-153 does not replace that hotfix. A store can therefore show the October patch while remaining exposed to the September zero-day if the separate remediation is missing.

Adobe also strongly recommends rotating encryption keys and associated credentials as part of remediation. Plan that work around its application impact. Encryption-key rotation can affect encrypted configuration and integrations, while credential rotation needs an inventory of database, payment, API, deployment and administration secrets. Change control and verification matter as much as speed.

A WAF rule can continue to reduce exposure to known StyleSmuggler request patterns, but it does not remove the vulnerable application behaviour. Keep the mitigation during rollout, apply the vendor hotfix and investigate any relevant indicators independently. Mitigation, remediation and compromise assessment remain separate responsibilities.

  • Apply the CVE-2026-75650 hotfix as a separate required remediation.
  • Rotate encryption keys and related credentials through a controlled plan.
  • Retain appropriate edge mitigation while the application fix is deployed and verified.
  • Investigate compromise indicators independently from the patch result.

04

Verify the commerce platform after deployment

Apply the patch chain in a production-like environment first. Test storefront navigation, search, customer accounts, checkout, payment, order administration, scheduled work, indexers, queues and integrations. Isolated patches reduce the change surface, but custom modules and overridden core behaviour can still turn a small diff into a commercial outage.

After production deployment, run Adobe's Commerce Version Tool. It reports which monthly patches are present or missing and which CVEs the installation covers. Store that output with the release evidence, then monitor application errors, queues, cron, administration and the purchase path. A successful patch command is not equivalent to a verified security state.

Intercube preview environments let your team test the patch chain before changing the live store. Deployment pipelines are included in the hosting plan, with build logs and release history available in the control plane. You can use that release route without maintaining a separate GitHub Actions deployment workflow or paying separate runner costs for it.

Engineering support connects the release to people who understand the runtime, managed services and deployment configuration. Intercube engineers can help establish the patch state, investigate a failed rollout and verify the platform after deployment. If the current host leaves that work with your application team, the October release is a concrete reason to move. Migration to Intercube managed hosting is included at no additional cost within the agreed onboarding scope.

Actions for APSB26-153

  • Treat Adobe Commerce and Magento Open Source September patch levels and earlier as affected.
  • Apply every required isolated patch in release order from the correct security-only baseline.
  • Keep the separate CVE-2026-75650 StyleSmuggler hotfix in the remediation plan.
  • Rotate encryption keys and associated credentials through a controlled procedure.
  • Use Commerce Version Tool and commerce journey tests to prove the production result.
